Discussion
In Chapter 1, Ayoob discusses the three main assumptions that have fuelled the bigger part of discussions about political Islam. The first myth that Ayoob focuses on is the argument that the combination of politics and religion is unique to Islam. The second myth is that political Islam, similar to Islam itself, is monolithic. The third myth is that political Islam is violent. The author argues that none of the above misconceptions covers the reality of the complex phenomenon that is modishly referred to as political Islam (Ayoob 20). The author states that Islam’s religious tradition is not different from other religions in terms of fighting the issue of religion in politics and politics in religion
