Write an essay of 3 pages, typed and double spaced, that discusses what you have learned from
these sources on the creation of empires, and how the lives of Native Americans, Africans,
European colonists, and people of mixed race were all influenced by the establishment of
European empires in the Americas.
The title of your paper will be: “Peoples and Empires in History”
First, provide a brief discussion of 3 paragraphs on how Turchin presents his argument
explaining how and why empires emerge in history.
In the next part of this paper, give examples of how people such as the Williams family were
swept up in the violence on the frontiers between the French and British imperial societies of
North America.
Finally provide four examples of individuals from the Colonial Biographies collection, and how
the lives and occupations of these individuals reflect the political, social, or economic
circumstances of life in the European colonial empires in America.
