I have found that the basic toolbar that is the default for the word program works well with basic word documents and commands that I use frequently. I prefer not to have a lot on my toolbar and not clutter it with multiple options.

I could see where the customization option could be ideal if working on a specific project or frequently need a specific command, which will increase efficiency.

In reviewing the toolbar options, I did add to the “quick access toolbar” a few commands that I hadn’t had there. Specifically, I added the “save as” and “spellcheck” commands. I use the control button on my keyboard a lot, so it is yet to be seen if this will be helpful, but I thought that I would give it a try.

Word allows you, within limits, to customize the tools that are available in the user interface. Word 2007 does not allow you to easily modify the tools that appear on the ribbon tabs, but Word 2010 “opened up” Word a bit so you could modify those tools. The customization area that is common to both versions of Word, however, is what is called the Quick Access Toolbar.
