he abruptly turns against her. In addition to being adulterous he charges her with purposefully disguising her true identity from him. He mistreats her and drives her away from their house. Because he only considers Desirees appearance and not her character Armands actions are hypocritical. He cares less about Desirees happiness than he does about what other people will think of him.
