Article Analysis: Rethinking Work
As depicted in the article Rethinking Work by Schwartz (2015), there are two perceptions of work and workers. One school of thought holds that employees generally hate the job and are only doing it because of the pay they get out of it. On the other hand, the second school of thought holds that employees generally love their work and are motivated to achieve more than pay. From the article, the author is more inclined to the second school of thought arguing that people have more to accomplish than only the wage. The views presented in this article resonate well with Douglas McGregor’s theory of leadership and motivation. McGregor’s theory X and theory Y are quite in tandem with the views articulated in the article.
