ÿ ÿ ÿ ÿ ÿ ÿI have an interest in pursuing a PhD in Education: Culture and Teaching. My ultimate goal in my career is that I become a professor. My career aspiration is to integrate Saudi Arabia education literature into the Saudi education system or curriculum (Ali and Pandya, 2021). The motivation to pursue research in this program has come from the fact that English has become part of a global language and represents cultural, linguistic, social, political, intellectual, and economic capital. Today, the world is demanding competent English language users, which has resulted in a dire need for high-quality English education across the world.ÿ
ÿ ÿ ÿ ÿ ÿ ÿThe main question in this research is; how can successful policies be implemented to promote increased English literacy, which has continued to be a major concern for the Saudi government. Some studies on how to implement the English education policies in Saudi Arabia have continuously reported that some actors such as employers, parents, teachers and senior officials are still anxious about the existing English education policy and practices due to the reasons that such acts could lead to an excessive indulgence of English Education, colonial remnants, diminishes, Westernization, and commercialization of the local knowledge and language.ÿ
ÿ ÿ ÿ ÿ ÿ ÿIn a paradoxical manner, while the Islamic activists have been in the lobby to the officials in the government so that they can block any move that intends to teach English to the young people and adults, neoliberal universities, business-friendly government, and the corporate bodies, in conjunction with the internal institutes have been continuously opposing and projecting English, referring to it as a ?global academic excellence? that is aimed at shaping the public notion about its expected advantages in building the local capacity (Al, 2017). Such conversations full of tensions in the different actors have led to a continuing debate over English instructions in Saudi Arabia.ÿ
ÿ ÿ ÿ ÿ ÿ ÿAlthough the prevailing critical decisions on the language education policy that is currently being applied in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are due to the forces of the changes in the globe and the doctrines in the neoliberal free market for the successful implementation of the policy, a strategic plan needs to be devised, with guidance from the local intellectual exigencies and conditions. Without the strategic plan, the policy will be hazardous to the national cultural identity, and classical Arabic and Saudi Arabia may be put at risk.ÿ
