Instructions. Write a 5 paragraph essay on the topic below.
On what basis does Wellman argue that we are required to do something to alleviate global poverty? What is his argument that we benefit from global poverty? (How does he argue we have negative duties to avoid continuing the harm that the global economic system produces?) What is his response to the claim that people in poor countries should fix their political problems themselves? Is his argument convincing? Why or why not?

It’s probably easiest to structure your essay like this:
Paragraph 1–Introduction with thesis
statement. Your thesis statement is the claim you will argue for. So, e.g., ‘I will argue against X’s view because it does not take Y into account.’
Paragraph 2-3 Explanation of the argument in the reading relevant to the question. Explain what the author says in your own
words. Do not copy or paraphrase word for word or rely on quotes. Do not rely on outside sources. Try to show that you understand the reading by explaining it in your own way.
Paragraph 4—Consider the objection that the topic directs you toward.
Paragraph 5—Offer your own assessment (i.e., defend your thesis) and conclude with a few sentences showing what you have proved.
