What value is there in assessing the development and applications of A.I. from a philosophical perspective? Explain your reasoning.

Humans have never abandoned the goal of creating an intelligent automaton, but even with today’s sophisticated technology we don’t seem much closer to realizing it, despite what we are told by big tech companies. Being impressed by programs like Watson, Big Blue, and current applications advertised as “A.I”, is ultimately no different from the amazement people living centuries ago had for Al Jazari’s mechanical clocks. In both cases, the ‘intelligent machines’ were simulations of A.I., but nothing more.
Which of the stories in Asimov’s iRobot do you think best depicts robots who demonstrate genuine A.I. rather than merely simulating it, and why? (You’ll likely need to refer to the robots by name). Why do you think Asimov assumes that A.I. will be realized in the form of robots?
